Our story
It started at home. I watched someone walk into our house to appraise a few items — and within minutes, it was clear they had no real expertise, just a clipboard and a guess. That experience stuck with me.
It made me realize how much of the appraisal and auction world still runs on gut instinct over data, and manual guesswork over scalable systems. In an industry handling billions in value — especially during moments like estate sales and inheritance — that just didn’t sit right.
So, we started asking questions. Over 100 interviews later — from small-town auctioneers to global giants like Christie’s and Sotheby’s — we saw the same pattern: a tidal wave of new asset categories was crashing into a system that hadn’t evolved in centuries.
That's why we built Vardera. What started as a tool for appraisal has become infrastructure for commerce: a single API that can identify, grade, value, and authenticate an item from its photos. We train our own computer vision models category by category — trading cards, coins, action figures, handbags — matching the accuracy of expert human graders in seconds, at a fraction of the cost.
Today, the world's leading marketplaces, retailers, and brands use Vardera to list items faster, catch fraud before it reaches buyers, and price trade-ins on the spot. Wherever an item's condition determines its value — from collectibles to luxury goods — that's where we work.
Our goal is simple: make trust scalable — for the next generation of collectors, sellers, and appraisers.

"Appraisals used to be an art. We’re turning them into a science."
